It has been sixty-four years since the last private country club with golf opened in the Sioux Falls metro area. Since that time, the metro area population has grown four-fold and it is estimated to add another 100,000 people before 2040. With already lengthy waiting lists for membership at Sioux Falls’ two private country clubs, combined with a steady annual population growth, now is the time to begin planning for the next private golf offering in the Sioux Falls area.
The Mapletøn Golf Club vision is slightly different from that of the two private country clubs in Sioux Falls. It will be private. But it will not be a traditional country club offering the typical amenities beyond golf, such as a swimming pool, tennis courts and large banquet facility for weddings and social functions. Instead, it will be Sioux Falls’ first ever private ‘Golf Club’, offering the best championship golf course in the area, fine dining, and overnight lodging accommodations. About the Designer:
The immensely talented Scott Hoffman has been contracted to design the championship golf course. Scott grew up in Nebraska playing the game of golf and has spent his career creating great golf courses. He was a senior design associate for Tom Fazio, one of the world’s leading architects. In 13 years, their West Coast office completed about 40 new and renovated golf clubs, most notably Gozzer Ranch (Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho), ranked 32nd in Golf Digest’s top 100 U.S. Courses. After leaving the Fazio office, Scott teamed up with Jackson Kahn design at Monterey CC Dunes Course and Scottsdale National, owned by GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons. Scott has since gone out on his own, recently completing his own passion project in his home state of Nebraska. Lost Rail Golf Club, located just a few miles from the west edge of Omaha, opened September of 2022 and is already receiving accolades from many golf media outlets. Sports Illustrated awarded it the Silver Medal for Best New Private Course in 2022.
